I suppose what I'm really leaning against in addition to skill checks is roll under attribute score throws. At the average you have a base 50% chance of succeeding at anything! Unless the DM brings in bonuses and penalties - which start to lean back into that difficulty class thing in trying to avoid. I'd rather this stuff be adjudicates at the table based on each unique situation. I think we agree there as well.vilecultofshapeshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14457093812421502016noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8912219856277926711.post-1727366355134203042022-05-10T11:08:34.667-07:002022-05-10T11:08:34.667-07:00Respectfully, I think it's worth rolling at ab...Respectfully, I think it's worth rolling at above 50% if there's also a significant consequence for failure. Jumping over a puddle? Sure. Jumping over a three foot gap between two buildings, but twelve stories up, and you're just a normal guy? Roll please.
And I'm pretty sure this is how real life works, too. You ever notice how when you get concerned you might not pull something off, you're more conscious of it, and more likely to fail?

That said, I tend to be much more handwavey in non-skill systems than in skill systems about this sort of thing.Empedocles the Wizardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08100746128653931940noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8912219856277926711.post-55340142593171727052020-10-20T10:26:33.176-07:002020-10-20T10:26:33.176-07:00"if something is better than 50/50 rolls, it ..."if something is better than 50/50 rolls, it makes no sense to be rolling anymore"

That's the core thing I keep for studying furtherJack Tremainhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12906068267967864239noreply@blogger.com
